Inspiration for a trip can come from anywhere. One day I was flipping through the local newspaper and saw a deal to Bali. One Snapchat to the boyfriend later and whoops we’re going to Bali. To be honest when he said “ok!” I thought he was kidding. Imagine my surprise and excitement when I came home to find him researching flights. Mr-Boyfriend has never really traveled before, aside from living in Australia until he was 10, so I’m hoping the travel-bug will bite him hard!
In the end we didn’t end up using the deal in the newspaper, we’ve decided to do our own thing and make it up as we go along. We are going from the 18th to the 24th of February, so rainy season but that also means less people which, as a low travel season lover, I am very excited for.
Where are we staying?
Ubud, the cultural heart of Bali and away from the parties (I know, we’re terrible 20-somethings). Neither of us are big party animals so it made sense to us to stay in the more peaceful sounding Ubud. Accommodation wise we are staying at The Payogan Villa Resort and Spa in a one bedroom deluxe pool villa, breakfast included, for Rp 11,130,00 (finally millionaires, heck yes) which is about $120NZD. Private pool with views of lush greenery? Um, yes please!
What are we going to do?
Honestly, most of this trip we are winging it. We have booked a private driver for one day, Ketut of Bali Safe Driver. We decided to book Ketut because he has really great reviews on Trip Advisor. He is also picking us up from the airport and dropping us back off for 350,000 IDR ($35NZD approx.) each way.
The day tour with Ketut includes:
Pick up at the hotel at 9am.
Tegal lalang rice terrace
Tirta empul temple
Coffee and spice plantation
Tegenungan water fall
Ubud monkey forest
Return to hotel.
– Visit elephant safari park
– Bali bird park
We have opted to add on a visit to the elephant safari park. Included is also bottled water, petrol, tax, car parking, and a sarong for temple visits. All for Rp 600,000 ($61.00 NZD) which is a damn good deal to me! Not included is lunch and entrance tickets. Fair enough.
Hopefully we will also find a way to see the other main hubs of Bali but I’m sure we can negotiate a price with someone to take us where we want to go. Seeing some of the other islands would also be excellent but honestly, whatever happens I’m sure it will be amazing and an unforgettable adventure.
We are so excited for:
RELAXING! After Christmas holidays, both of us went back to work so unmotivated and disinterested. Hopefully this break will help us recharge. While we are away, it is also our one year anniversary, so some peaceful alone time will also be good. Monkeys, temples, amazing scenery, new food, new people, and new adventures. I am SO excited for all of it. Bring on February 18th!!
Have you been to Bali before? What did you do, what did you see??
